Reconsider Your Dining Room

The formal dining room is making a comeback. And not just for entertaining. Family meals in the dining room using the “good” china are weekly occurrences in an increasing number of homes. You have one, why not use it?!!

Today’s dining room is mix of the old and the new. Secondhand, vintage furniture grounds the room and makes it feel homey. Use your grandmother's table and put a fresh print on the fabric of the chair cushions. (That’s an easy DIY project.) Or get a new table and new chairs but pair with a vintage buffet.

If you would like to start using your dining room, look around for well-loved furniture that previous generations have used. Check your attic or look for furniture that you previously repurposed, like the antique sideboard that you are using as a TV stand.   Check out thrift and consignment stores and estate sales to find treasures to welcome to your  family. People are practically giving away china on the marketplace sites.

PRO TIP: Keep your dining room from feeling stuffy with modern art work, a colorful area rug, mismatched chairs, or whimsical china and accessories. Remember, eclectic IS a design style!

Enjoy your "new" room!

Trend Alert

Game tables are in demand, maybe due to the current rise of the formal dining room. For so long, the dining table has been a catch-all for games, crafts, working from home, you name it. Now that people want to re-designate that space for formal dining, game tables can be used to play games, puzzles, even poker night!

How Much Does It Cost?

Stanton has just kicked off their Stylish Savings Event. These designer favorite carpets are all on sale – including this patterned carpet we just installed in two bedrooms with closets of a Roswell home. Chevron patterns are timeless and this color works with many decorating schemes. The price for 610 sq ft was $4800, including moving the furniture and removing the existing carpet and pad. This nylon carpet will look great for years to come.

Baby On Board?

When you’re expecting, designing and setting up a nursery is one of the most joyful experiences. You get to pick paint colors, the crib and all the cute decor–all in anticipation for your little one. But have you ever stopped to consider the best flooring for a nursery?

Your nursery’s flooring can play a significant role in how well your baby sleeps and their overall health (fingers crossed they’ll sleep there a lot!) Nursery floors also need to be easy to clean and, as they grow, it needs to withstand a toddler’s temper tantrums and the occasional thrown toy.

But what makes the best flooring for little ones? When setting up a nursery for your new little one, here are some tips to consider and suggestions for flooring types.

  • Easy to Clean–Kids are messy, plain and simple. So, make sure it’s a flooring that’s easy to clean and offers low maintenance.

  • Soft–Children take tumbles, which is why you should consider a soft floor to combat those bumps and bruises.
  • Quiet Material–Babies and children tend to be light sleepers. Choose a flooring with acoustical value and noise-softening qualities to soften your footsteps out of the room.

  • Healthy and Natural--Consider nursery flooring that is antimicrobial, allergen-free and constructed of a clean and natural material with low volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

  • Budget–As your new baby grows, your nursery will shift into a child’s bedroom, where they will play and get messy. Not only is this a reason you want easy-to-maintain floors, but you want the flooring to last so you don't have to replace it or many many years.

Top choices are carpet and laminate floors. LVP and hardwood flooring are also great options for a nursery. And don’t forget a fun area rug for your hard surface floor.

Wonderful World Of Window Treatments

Baby-proofing your home can be a major task for any soon-to-be parents. You have so many kitchen items to put away, electrical sockets to cover up...and window treatments to buy? Yes, you heard that right.

You might think that taking the blinds or curtains in your home down is the only solution. Well that’s not the case. When preparing for a new baby (or a toddler!) you have to adjust so much of your life. You shouldn’t have to adjust your style, too. Here are a few things to keep in mind to keep your baby safe without sacrificing your home’s visual appeal.

Corded window coverings are among the top five hidden hazards in American homes—and to keep your children safe, it’s best to forgo the potential hazard all together.

Cordless and Motorized Shades for Enhanced Safety

When it comes to your little ones, safety is everything. Shades that have long, dangling cords can be dangerous for kids and pets that may get tangled in them. So always look for cordless blinds for kids' rooms or a motorized lifting system like PowerView® Automation that lets you control your shades automatically with a simple push of a button, you can program them to open and close at specific times of day, a tap on a mobile device or with voice control if your shades are connected to a compatible smart-home system. (Which comes in handy if you've got your hands full!)

LiteRise® is another great cordless option because it's easy to operate. To raise and lower your shades, simply push up or pull down on the bottom rail.

Are Curtains Safe in a Nursery?

When it comes to hanging curtains with infants or toddlers, the two main dangers to watch for are are cords and floor-length drapes. Cords are obviously a strangulation hazard and should be avoided. Floor-length curtains or drapes can also be dangerous if a child trips, gets trapped in them, or pulls them off the wall. Most experts recommend keeping curtains shorter in length so children don’t become tangled in them or pull them down once they start standing and walking. For this same reason, place cribs and changing tables away from windows when possible.

PRO TIP: It’s also a smart safety decision to have window coverings installed by a professional using proper mounting hardware, since tension rods can be pulled down by curious and adventurous youngsters.

Room-Darkening and Blackout Shades

In kids' rooms and nurseries, room-darkening or blackout shades are ideal for blocking out the morning sun. Vignette® Modern Roman Shades offer a wide selection of room-darkening fabrics in fun, playful colors and styles. Something to keep in mind—you can also add a room-darkening or blackout liner to your Vignette shade that can be sewn into the fabric directly. And for even greater flexibility, Vignette shades are available with a Duolite® option that combines a light-filtering or sheer front shade with a room-darkening back panel that both roll on a single roller. It’s day-night convenience at your fingertips.

Shutters

Shutters make a great addition to children’s rooms or playrooms when you need an alternative to traditional blinds. Cordless by nature, you can rest easy knowing your blinds are not a hazard for your kids (or your pets!).

The Fun Factor: Playful Colors and Styles

You can find many cellular shades, roller shades and Roman shades in a wide variety of colors and designs. Duette® Honeycomb Shades come in many fun fabrics, colors and textures and have a cellular design that adds a layer of insulation at the window. You can even get a honeycomb-within-a-honeycomb construction for more energy efficiency. An added bonus—Duette shades can reduce outside noise, so you and your child can have a better night's sleep!
