One Day It's In, The Next Day It's Out
Coming Soon!
You may have never thought about it, but flooring IS fashion driven. If it wasn't, we would still have parquet floors, shiny flowery vinyl in our kitchen, and avocado green shag carpet. This is the time of year that new products are being introduced. Here's what to look for:
Herringbone patterns---in wood, luxury vinyl plank (LVP), tile, and laminate. Previously only used in foyers, now being installed throughout the home.
Earth tones---warm, cozy, and neutral colors. Elegant and easy, feels comfortable and not formal.
Products designed with pets in mind---carpet, LVP, laminate. Stain proof, scratch and water resistant.
Wood look and marble look porcelain tiles. The visual without the maintenance!
Black and white patterned tiles---in a larger format than the traditional 6" x 6" size.
Distressed or reclaimed wood, barnwood---wire brushed, oil or matte finish, wide plank.
Carpet---look for bold patterns (cut and loops), tonals, multicolors, silky soft carpet, and Berbers in small subtle patterns
Longer and wider planks in LVP---7 to 8 foot long boards for greater realism, 8 to 9 inch widths.
Stained concrete---faux or the real thing.
White oak hardwood floors---finer grained than red oak, gray and white-washed stain colors look better with the cooler tones of white oak
Area rugs---as the main level of many homes in now all hard surface, the need for rugs increases. Area rugs add design flair and color to the room. Rugs are usually the focal point of your room, and can be easily changed out seasonally to give the room a mini makeover.
Terrazzo---a type of hard surface floor that has been around for decades, primarily in commercial settings. Real terrazzo is made from stone fragments, crushed glass, shells or other organic materials embedded in concrete and polished until smooth. There is also faux terrazzo available at a more economical price.
SPC flooring (Stone Polymer Composite)---available in wood looks and tile looks, very indentation resistant, waterproof, high heels won't damage it.
LVP/LVT domestically produced---moving away from unpredictable Chinese imports and tariff price wars.
BONUS TIP: Not sure the difference between cool and warm colors? Cool color tones include grays, blues, greens. Warm color tones include yellow, oranges, and reds (think colors of the sun.)
How Much Does It Cost?
We just installed Berber carpet in the master bedroom, two guest bedrooms plus closets of a Marietta home. Our client selected a higher end Berber, one with a subtle pattern. For a little less than $3000, our client now has a lovely, very durable, very stain resistant nylon carpet that will look great for years and years.
I Was Floored By Enhance
Neil in Duluth writes:
"We recently had Enhance Floors and More install hardwood flooring in our master bedroom on the main floor. They needed to match the original 24-year-old flooring and the 10-year-old flooring that Enhance installed. I did not get quotes from other vendors because due to our past experience with Enhance, I knew they were the best even though they may be slightly more expensive.
Also, 10 years ago they replaced the carpeting in the 2nd floor and did a very nice job. Last year we had them install quartz countertop and a subway tile backsplash in our kitchen and again an excellent installation.
They have great customer service and they provide schedules that are accurate and timely.I have recommended them to our neighbors and they also have had excellent results.
I will use them for any future work that I might have without hesitation."
Thank you, Neil. As always, you were a pleasure to work with. Please call upon us with any questions or concerns, and we greatly appreciate the referrals!
