HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
One of the very first steps in shopping for new flooring is deciding what TYPE of product you should be considering. Not the style or the color. Not the texture or finish. Not even what price range. The very basic starting point----do you want soft carpet for your family room? Or super durable porcelain tile? Or shiny elegant hardwood floors?
Sometimes knowing the price of different flooring options makes the choice easier. And there is certainly a wide range of prices based on the type of floor you select. As an example, let's assume you have a 400 square feet family room that is currently carpeted, and that you are on a wooden subfloor (i.e., over a basement or crawl space.) If you were to choose a medium-priced product, the average professionally installed cost for each type of flooring is approximately:
Carpet $2000
Laminate $3200
Luxury Vinyl Plank $3400
Hardwoods 3/4" $4000
Tile $7500
The type of flooring makes a difference on your budget, doesn't it? Of course, there are many other things to consider, for instance, the average person replaces their carpet every nine years. So, if you are in your home for twenty years, you will replace your carpet at least once, maybe twice. But you will almost certainly have the same wood floor for twenty years. Over time, the higher priced options tend to pay for themselves because of the longevity of the product. However, this doesn't necessarily make you feel better when you write the initial check to pay for it!
Here is some pricing from recent installations to help you as you make your budget:
Here’s the scoop on some of our recent installations of light colored floors:
450 sq ft Somerset hardwood floors Classic Collection ¾” x 3 ¼” color Red Oak Natural in the large kitchen and foyer of a Marietta home for $6300
684 sq ft COREtec VV024 Plus Plank 7” wide color Foxbury Oak in the primary bedroom, 2 guest bedrooms, and hall of a Marietta home for $5100
462 sq ft Karastan laminate Andilet color Buff Cream Oak in a Marietta basement $4200
Carpet
We completed an installation of new SmartStrand carpet (medium quality) in the primary bedroom, staircase and hallway of a Marietta home -- for less than $3000!
Stanton has just kicked off their Stylish Savings Event. These designer favorite carpets are all on sale – including this patterned carpet we just installed in two bedrooms with closets of a Roswell home. Chevron patterns are timeless and this color works with many decorating schemes. The price for 610 sq ft was $4800, including moving the furniture and removing the existing carpet and pad. This nylon carpet will look great for years to come. And it's on sale this month during the Stanton Stylish Savings Event!
We install a lot of SmartStrand carpet. In fact, we chose it for the floors in the Design Center because we know how well it performs. We recently installed a patterned LCL carpet (loop-cut-loop) in two bedrooms and the staircase of a Marietta home. The price for 736 square feet was a little over $3500. This included moving furniture and the removal of the existing carpet and pad.
We install a lot of carpet stair runners. Some are very simple -- for example an LCL with a subtle pattern -- while others are very dramatic. Some clients really want to make a statement, and others just want to protect their staircase (and their tailbone!)
Last week we installed a faux animal print on two full staircases for a little over $2900. The edges were serged for a more formal look. Last week also installed a Berber carpet with a subtle pattern for a client for just shy of $1400.
Outdoor carpet
The spring weather makes us want to update our decks and patios, doesn’t it? One easy way to update your outdoor space is with outdoor carpet, either installed or a large area rug.
When most of us think of outdoor carpet, we picture ugly green grass looking carpet. While this is still available, there are so many other great looking choices! Here are a few of our favorites and the square foot price for the carpet.

Hardwood floors
We just installed new Mohawk hardwood floors in the living room and hallway of a Marietta home -- for less than $3600!
We recently installed a French Oak hardwood floor in the Master Bedroom of a Canton home. Our client selected Palmetto Road Riviera -- a true French Oak hardwood featuring distinct saw marks and textures in a random width 4" 5" 6" installation that feels both ageless and antique. The bedroom (344 sq ft) installed for a little over $4600. This gorgeous floor created the sanctuary our client was seeking.
Refinishing your hardwood floors is not cheap, but it is definitely less expensive than brand new hardwood floors! We recently refinished all the wood on the main level of a home in Roswell – living room, dining room, den, kitchen, foyer, laundry room, and two halls. The price was a little over $7,000. This included new shoemold and furniture moving. The client’s floor is now practically brand new and will look fabulous for years to come!
LVP
We just installed this gorgeous Mohawk PureTech Select LVP in the living room, dining room. kitchen, breakfast area, powder room, hall and foyer of a Kennesaw home. Over 800 square feet was right at $7000 totally installed. If our client had chosen to take advantage of the 18 month interest free financing, the monthly payment would have been less than $400 a month. That's in your budget, right?
LVP is a great choice for a basement, with one caveat. Expect some floor prep to be needed to get the cement slab within manufacturer specs for levelness. (TIP: Most builders do not prepare the basement slab to meet these requirements.) We just installed a Coretec LVP in the large basement of a Marietta home, almost 1300 square feet. Our client's "all in" price was a little over $11K. She is loving how easy her new floor is to take care of.
We also installed a CoreTec LVP in a 1067 sq ft basement of a Marietta home. The cost was a little over $7000 plus some prep/levelling that was needed.
The puzzle tiles are a relatively easy do-it-yourself installation. Each tile is 23" x 23" and is $21 per tile. We can also install it for you if you are not a DIYer.
Countertops
One slab of granite installed runs about $4500 installed. Other types of countertops will be more. Quartz prices vary, but usually one slab will run $6000 to $7000. There is a wide range in marble and quartzite pricing, but these stones tend to be at the higher end of spectrum.
Most slabs are around 50 square feet. A small kitchen is around 40 feet, a medium kitchen around 65 square feet, and a large kitchen can be 100 square feet or more. As you can see, many kitchens require more than one slab.
Ashen white granite is grey and white and is very popular for kitchens and bathroom vanities. A recent installation in a smallish Marietta kitchen was $3300. This did not include the cost of the plumber.
Window treatments
Sometimes knowing the price of different window treatment options makes the choice easier. And there is certainly a wide range of prices.
As an example, let's assume you want new coverings for the four windows in your living room. Each window is 36" x 60". The installed cost for these 4 windows for each type of window covering is approximately:
Honeycomb $1580 (Applause by Hunter Douglas)
Shutters $1999 (White wood shutters with 3 1/2" louvers by Allgood)
Roman Shades $3585 (Vingnette® by Hunter Douglas)
The type of window shades makes a difference on your budget, doesn't it? Of course, there are many other options to consider, for instance, the operating system, from corded to power, or light filtering to black out.
Over time, the higher priced options tend to pay for themselves because of the longevity of the product. However, this doesn't necessarily make you feel better when you write the initial check to pay for it!
This week we installed Hunter Douglas® Provenance Woven Woods Shades Fabric Coastal color Egret with light filtering liner, for a customer's bathroom. The one over the tub was PowerView and the other two other LiteRise. Her price was $3,100 for all three.
Laminate
We recently installed a Karastan laminate in the large Family Room of a Marietta home. The family pets (two labs) are enjoying playing with each other on the floor without getting in trouble! The total investment was just shy of $4900 for 460 square feet. This includes removing the old carpet and pad, moving furniture, new shoemold and trim, and the necessary floor prep/leveling of the cement subfloor.
Mohawk RevWood is the top brand in laminates, known for quality, styling, and price. We recently installed 541 sq ft of the Rustic Legacy color Cedar Chestnut in a large kitchen area. The price was a little over $4800, all inclusive. This is a great looking floor that our client will enjoy for years.
We recently installed one of our favorite laminates - Mohawk RevWood Plus style Elegantly Aged color Aged Copper. If you like a medium toned floor, you will love this color. More brown than red, it works with most decors. We installed 660 square feet in a Vinings family room, two bedrooms, and hallway for $5200. This is an easy-care floor that will look great for years and years!
We recently installed new Karastan BelleLuxe laminate in the kitchen, hall and laundry room of a Marietta home -- for less than $3200!
Bathrooms
We looked at our completed bathroom renovations this year 2023 and compiled this information:
Master Bath starting at $35,000
Guest Bath starting at $20,000
These prices do not include items that the client provided, for example, plumbing fixtures and vanities. Every job is different, but this gives you an idea of typical budget for your bathroom renovation.
